Kayhan Kalhor awarded the prestigious Isaac Stern Human Spirit Award

On September 1, 2018 Kayhan Kalhor was awarded the esteemed Isaac Stern Human Spirit Award by the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition for his “outstanding contribution to our understanding of humanity through the medium of music.”

In solemn recognition of Isaac Stern’s musical illumination of humanity, the ‘Isaac Stern Prize’ was created to award an individual – in any field and from any part of the world – who is deemed to have made an outstanding contribution to our understanding of humanity through the medium of music. This prize will be awarded to the laureate selected by the chair of the competition’s organisation committee Long Yu, Yo-Yo Ma by special invitation, and members of the Stern family.

Hosted by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the children of Isaac Stern, this competition is one of the leading music competitions throughout the world. The legacy of Isaac Stern, who more than 35 years ago made a groundbreaking visit to China, now firmly lives on there. In addition to awards in classical music performance and the Human Spirit Award, it also has awards in chamber music and Chinese music and rewards musicians not just for technical ability, but also for all-around dedication to music.
